$3,000,000 – wrongful death of 10 children in negligent nursing home

Eighteen children who were patients that required continuous critical care at Southdown Care Center in Houma became infected with a cold virus because the care center refused to isolate the children properly and the staff failed to wash hands and use gloves, masks and gowns. Ten children died from the virus. Suit was brought against the center and the case was tried to a jury in Houma, Louisiana. The jury returned a verdict in favor of two of the Plaintiffs for 1.2 million dollars. $3,000,000, which was the maximum insurance coverage for the facility, was paid to resolve all the cases following the jury’s verdict.
